Seven Cypress strives to go beyond reforestation, and instead focus on total habitat restoration to the benefit of humanity and native flora and fauna alike.
Seven Cypress utilizes a carbon capture process known as pyrolysis to generate a material known as biochar. This sequestered carbon serves as a stable, nutrient-rich soil amendment.
Humanity has a responsibility to safeguard the environments that surround us. Because when we provide for the natural landscape, the natural landscape in turn provides for us.
SAVING THE FORESTS
FOR THE TREES
Shortly before the arrival of category 4 Hurricane Ian in September of 2022, Dr. Peter Berry planted seven bald cypress saplings in a stretch of wetland in unincorporated Seminole County. Despite heavy rains and winds in excess of 130 miles per hour, these seven young cypress trees survived the deadliest storm the state of Florida had seen in nearly a century.
The land the young trees took root in helped guarantee their survival–fourteen feet of peat and a direct connection into Florida's life- giving aquifer kept the cypresses healthy, despite being completely submerged for a number of days. The success of the trees encouraged Dr. Berry to plant an additional 243 cypress trees and start the Seven Cypress carbon capture program.
